Back to School Miracles...and also, McDonalds is a Magical Place

With the Li Family

Hello everyone!

This week went really well. Suddenly our success on the street just jumped up this week,  and a lot of it was thanks to just doing our studies in McDonalds and chatting with the people next to us. Here in Taiwan, we do something differently when we do our companionship and language study. We typically study outside at convenience stores,  restaurants, etc. It's just part of the culture here that people go to places like that to chill, so it makes it a great way to find people willing to talk to us. We can also be more flexible and break up our time so we don't just have a long stretch of trying to find effective things to do in the afternoon when everyone is at work.

This week we ended up with a lot of extra time, so that meant talking to everyone on the street and calling a lot of people. We met some pretty cool young guys willing to learn more that way. We also split our English class up to two days to allow us to teach more classes and have better quality. Hoping to find some young families through that.

This week our friend立德 Li-de progressed a lot. He is being baptized next Saturday. What a wild ride. Huge miracle. All because we listened to the spirit and stopped our bikes to walk around and talk to some people in the extra time we had before another lesson. All we did was be there. He was just prepared. The members love him, and he likes church way better than anything he's been to before. He's a good guy. He works for IBM...SUPER smart guy.

Yeah, that was pretty much our week. We are trying to find more variety, because this week was a lot of mindless finding, which is exhausting and actually loses its productivity when you're exhausted.

This week I reread my patriarchal blessing and was really inspired once again by how personal it is. I have seen it come through so much on my mission,  and it gave me a lot of direction for what I need to do in the future.  I'm super grateful for that thing. If you haven't read yours recently,  pull it out and treasure that scripture the Lord has given just to you!

Love you all,
Elder Ogden

"It's time to make plans for my life so I have something to be crushed by brutal reality." (Missionary Mom Des: When missionaries are close to the end of their missions, they go through this "My Plan" activity to help them organize their thoughts about what they want to do once the mission is over.)

"We get given way too much milk."

"It's a good thing we only live 100 feet away from the church building." (Missionary Mom Des: Elder Ogden says that members are always giving them milk. They bring it to church with them and then he and his companion have to cart the box home on their bikes.)
Playing laser tag last P-day

Elder Ogden said that this was the most fun he has ever had at a laser tag place.

"With Brother Li and his friend, Sister Wu, at the Pizza Hut Buffet."

"Wendy from Sanxia came to feed us."

"BBQ for Mid-Autumn Festival. (Yes, that is chicken hearts you see there...)

A meme that someone sent to Elder Ogden. The caption says, "We're taking it all. Hand over the moon cakes." The dogs have netting on their faces that it usually put around fruit to keep it from getting bruised.
